Are you currently using Windows 8?  If so, you can update to the new Windows 8.1 for free starting today.

Microsoft released Windows 8.1 to address some of the gripes that users have expressed, such as bringing the familiar Start button back.  To update your computer simply go to the Store App in the Start screen.  If you don’t see an icon for the Store hit the “s” key and type “store” in the search box to find the app. There you will see the Windows 8.1 update available.
